We all share great memories and lasting friendships from our days at MHS. 
Now is the time when our Alma Mater and its current student population need our help.

Wide lawns, mature trees, low slung buildings and covered walkways dominate the campus where alums are welcomed by staff, along with the diverse and friendly students.  Under the leadership of the principal, the campus has a safe, positive school climate.



Morningside High School, especially, feels the ongoing budget cuts to public education, putting key programs at risk.  Much of the neighboring community consists of lower income families and students struggle to secure the financial assistance needed to attend college.

Our school has a rich history that began In the late 1940’s when a second high school was proposed by the City of Inglewood.  The area to be served, east of Prairie Avenue, was known as Morningside Park. 

​

Although still under construction in the fall of 1951, Sophomores from Inglewood High School and Freshmen from Crozier Junior High School walked onto the new campus becoming 500 pioneers of Morningside High School (MHS). The new students voted to select red and white as the school colors.  We were called the Monarchs and the Lion was voted our school mascot.



During the building years, students and faculty learned to avoid mud puddles and construction zones.  Featured in the September 1956 issue of Life Magazine was a pictorial of the 15 classroom tents set up in the school parking lot.  Community, faculty and students alike referred to this modern open campus resembling a college setting

as the Miracle High School (MHS).
